City As Canvas: Mural Project

Reimagining the city through lasting works of public art

A central component to Tom Tom is the idea of “City as Canvas” and seeing public places in new and imaginative ways. But beyond imaginative tactical urbanism like block parties and pop up installations, we also seek to foster lasting legacies that live beyond the festival.

In 2016, the Tom Tom Mural Project will be bigger and better than ever, engaging local and regional artists at multiple sites throughout Charlottesville. The murals will be created during the week of festival and will inspire people to reimagine their city and neighborhoods as opportunities for creativity and expression.

Special thanks to supporters of this initiative, including the FUNd@CACF and the IX Art Park, for underwriting artists stipends and supplies. Blue Ridge Building Supply and Benjamin Moore Paint for donating supplies, and United Rentals and Woodard Properties, for subsidizing the lifts.
