William Walker, PhD, is the Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of HemoSonics, a medical diagnostics company with offices in Charlottesville and Durham, NC. HemoSonics is developing the world’s first comprehensive near patient coagulation management platform: the QuantraTM Hemostasis Analyzer. The Quantra instrument and a library of tests rapidly identify coagulation dysfunctions in acute care settings, enabling physicians to improve care while reducing healthcare costs.
Walker has been an active founder in three medical device companies. His prior company, PocketSonics, developed the Sonic WindowTM, a handheld ultrasound scanner designed to support vascular access. PocketSonics was acquired by Analogic in 2014.
Walker applied his entrepreneurial temperament as a faculty member at the University of Virginia from 1997 to 2010. During that period he led the design and implementation of the Undergraduate Major in Biomedical Engineering.
